RULES & REGULATIONS (for ATV's)
              VRTC - RULES & GUIDELINES - FOR ATV's

  • ALL TRAIL USAGE IS GOVERNED BY THE CoKL BYLAW's 
  • MUST HAVE KATVA (or reciprocal) PERMIT IN THEIR POSSESION
  • ATV USE IS - MAY 1-NOV 30, between hours of 7:00am-9:30pm
  • ATV MUST BE PLATED AND INSURED
  • ATV MUST MEET All SAFETY AND ORV spec's
  • ATV MUST MEET HWY TRAFFIC ACT DEFINITIONS
  • ATV's MUST MEET ACCEPTABLE NOISE LEVELS
  • ATV OPERATOR MUST BE xx YEARS OLD OR OLDER (Specific rules apply)
  • MAX 20KpH (As Signed) in Urban Area's   (Lindsay, Bethany, Fenelon Falls, Burnt River, Kinmount)
  • MAX 50KpH (As Signed) outside of urban areas.

  • ATVers MUST WEAR HELMETS
  • ATVers MUST OBEY ALL WARNING & STOP SIGNS
  • ATVers MUST OBEY ALL WARDEN, LAW AND BYLAW ENFORCEMENT DIRECTIVES
  • ATVers MUST OPERATE THE ATV IN A SAFE & QUIET MANNER

  • PEDESTRIANS HAVE RIGHT OF WAY OVER ALL OTHER USERS
  • ATVers MUST SLOW DOWN & STAY TO THE RIGHT WHEN APROACHING ALL OTHER USERS
  • ATVers ONLY PASS/OVERTAKE WITH EXTREME CARE
  • ATVers SHOULD SHUT OFF ATV's AND WAIT FOR HORSES TO PASS
  • ATVers SHOULD NOT PASS/OVERTAKE HORSES

  • PRIVACY AND THE RIGHTS OF ABUTTING LANDOWNERS MUST BE RESPECTED
  • DO NOT LITTER
  • DO NOT REMOVE NATURAL VEGETATION                              
  • SMILE AND BE NICE (Don't forget many eyes are on us)


MOTORIZED VEHICLES THAT ARE  NOT ALLOWED ON THE VRTC (include but not limited to)  
  • UTVs/SxS, Dirt Bikes, Motorcycles, MoPeds, Dune Buggies, Golf Carts, Go-Karts,       ARGO's, Jeeps, Pickups, Trucks, Autos etc, etc ...  in legal-speak, what is NOT ALLOWED goes something like this:
".. any 2 or 4 wheeled motorized vehicle NOT CATEGORIZED  as an "ATV" under the "ORV", are therefore NOT PERMITTED on the VRTC."

Also NOTE: Due to the soft ground and necessary Trail Work and Clean up being preformed by the Town after close of  Snowmobile Season March31st, no motorized vehicles are allowed on the VRTC April 1 - April 30.

MOTORIZED VEHICLES THAT ARE ALLOWED ON THE VRTC
Other than CoKL vehicles for maintenance purposes, and special arrangements made thru COKL council,  the ONLY  MOTORIZED VEHICLEs allowed on the VRTC, May 1- Nov 30, between the hours of 7:00am-9:30pm,  are those categorized as an "ATV" under the "ORV", with KATVA (or reciprocal) PERMIT and following the rules above.


ROAD & ROAD LINK - RULES & GUIDELINES - FOR ATV's

  • ALL ROAD LINK USAGE IS GOVERNED BY THE HIGHWAY TRAFFIC ACT  (&put link here)
  • ATV USE IS - MAY 1 - NOV 30, between hours of 7:00am-9:30pm
  • ATV OPERATOR MUST HAVE KATVA (or reciprocal) PERMIT IN THEIR POSSESION (&put link here)
  • ATV OPERATOR MUST BE 16 YEARS OLD OR OLDER AND HAVE VALID DRIVERS LICENSE

  • ATV MUST BE PLATED AND INSURED
  • ATV MUST BE OPERATED AS DRIVER ONLY. NO PASSENGERS ALLOWED (PERIOD.  END OF STORY)
  • ATV MUST BE DRIVEN WITH HEADLIGHTS ON
  • ATV MUST NOT EXCEED 20KM/Hr
  • ATV OPERATOR MUST SIGNAL ALL TURNS
  • ATV OPERATOR MUST OBEY ALL TRAFFIC SIGNS AND LIGHTS
  • ATV OPERATOR MUST OBEY ALL  LAW AND BYLAW ENFORCEMENT DIRECTIVES
  • ATV MUST BE DRIVEN  IN A SAFE , RESPONSIBLE & QUIET MANNER

  • ATV MUST HAVE WORKING BRAKE LIGHTS AND SIDE MARKERS AS PER ORV SPEC's
  • ATV MUST MEET ALL SAFETY AND ORV SPEC's (&put link here)
  • ATV MUST MEET HIGHWAY TRAFFIC ACT DEFINITIONS (&put link here)
  • ATV MUST MEET ACCEPTABLE NOISE LEVELS

  • ATV MUST STAY OFF SIDEWALKS
  • ATV MAY USE PARKING SPOTS
  • ATV OPERATOR MUST BE ATTENTIVE TO TRAFFIC.
  • BE COURTEOUS


NOTE: For those that Ride the VRTC and Somerville Trails 2-up, keep in mind that TRAILS are different from a "ROAD".   Riding 2-up on a ROAD/ROAD LINK in Ontario is not only against the Law and subject to fines, it is also very noticable and very unlikely that you will be talking your way out of a ticket.
